Star Spanish winemaker Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez, descendants of José Palacios, were captivated by Bierzo’s rugged landscape—its steep slopes, slate and granite soils, and ancient, mixed-variety vineyards. Located in northwest Spain, where the Atlantic influence is stronger, Bierzo is home to Mencía, the region’s standout red grape.
