Bodegas Roda Selas Rioja 2018 92pts
Bodegas RODA was conceived and initiated in the late 1980's by the Rollant-Daurella (Ro-Da) family of Barcelona, minutely involved in Spain's fine wine distribution sector. Considered “the most modern of the traditionalists and the most traditional of the modernists.” Roda works with a total of 120 hectares - 70 owned by Roda and 50 by contracted growers - all bush vines; no irrigation; minimum intervention (no chemically synthesized products and use of cover crops). Their uncompromising commitment to quality is evident in the extensive research and development department and the state of the art gravity flow winery which includes the seventeen Seguin Moreau foudre for fermentation, radiant heat malolactic room and extensive aging cellar.
"Sela" was aged in French oak for 12 months.
92 Points James Suckling
A pretty nose of blackcurrants, plums, incense, stones and chocolate. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Sleek, juicy Rioja.
92 Points Wine Advocate
I liked the result of the cold, rainy and challenging vintage, which resulted in the 2018 Sela, a wine with less alcohol, 13.5%, and more freshness, lighter, a little more herbal but to me fresher and with more character and more integrated oak. It's a blend of Tempranillo with 3% Garnacha and 2% Graciano matured in French barrique for 12 months. It is drinking well and is ideal for food and wines by the glass.
Wine Notes
Intense, fruity and cheerful, Sela is a wine with a lot of liveliness. Red fruits in the line of fresh cherries dominate with undertones of sage and cedar. The structure is gracefully supported with fine, silky tannins for a persistent, lovely finish. 14% Alc.
95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Garnacha
