Crossbarn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2021

After launching his namesake winery in 1991, Paul Hobbs established Crossbarn in 2000 to honor his family’s farming heritage and values of farming sustainably. What began as just one small lot of cabernet sauvignon from the inaugural vintage gradually evolved to introduce chardonnay and pinot noir.

Located in a former apple processing facility in Sebastopol, California, Crossbarn wines are made with labor-intensive, yet simple techniques. We harvest our fruit at night by hand, sort by the berry or cluster, ferment each vineyard separately, and age wine using a combination of stainless steel and low percentages of new oak.

The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a huge overachiever. Bright, punchy and super-expressive, the 2021 offers up boisterous red/purplish fruit. Lavender, rose petal, spice and mint are all dialed up in this heady, explosive Pinot. Readers will have a very hard time finding a Pinot with this much quality for the money. All the fruit is estate. I am not sure I have ever tasted a California Pinot this good for $40 a bottle.

All the fruit is estate-grown, and it's hard to recall ever tasting a California Pinot of this caliber for just $35 a bottle.
