Ramey Rodgers Creek Syrah 2018

Ramey Rodgers Creek Syrah is a distinguished wine from Ramey Wine Cellars, crafted by renowned winemaker David Ramey. This vintage is sourced from the Rodgers Creek Vineyard, situated at an elevation of 800 feet on the cooler, western slopes of Sonoma Mountain within the Petaluma Gap AVA. The vineyard, planted in 2002 to Ramey's specifications, features rocky volcanic soils that contribute to the wine's distinctive character. 

The 2018 vintage is a blend of 88% Syrah and 12% Viognier, co-fermented to enhance aromatic complexity.

A dark ruby red hue, the 2018 Syrah Rodger’s Creek Vineyard is lifted with red fruits as well as bright floral perfume, pancetta, sandalwood, and black pepper. Medium-bodied, it is bright but well balanced through the palate, with a clean, tapered finish, and it’s going to drink well over the coming 10 or so years. l love it.

Full-bodied but not fat, it’s braced by moderate tannins and filled with blackberry, black pepper and grilled meat flavors that stimulate the palate and linger on the finish. Drink now or hold.

On the palate, it offers bold flavors of smoked meats, green olive, and white pepper, wrapped in a silky texture reminiscent of Pinot Noir-like balance. Bright acidity and firm tannins create a structured, exemplary finish. The co-fermentation with Viognier adds a touch of floral lift, while the new French oak imparts subtle spice, complementing the fruit without overpowering it.
