Kistler Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay 2022

The wines from 2022, the second of three consecutive cooler vintages for Kistler, offer a distinct character of freshness and a perfect sense of being just ripe throughout. The growing season could very well be described as being verdant. Good rains that moved us away from but not entirely out of the drought in the winter led to a cool wet spring and a mild summer with wetting rains across both seasons. Naturally low crops and a clement tone to the late summer weather led to good concentration and acid retention in the fruit. We avoided the pronounced Labor Day heat wave, finishing the last of our picks as it settled in thereby capturing the fresh nature 
of the vintage.

The Kistler Sonoma Mountain 2022 Chardonnay matches the high quality of Kistler's single vineyard Chardonnays. Through expert blending, they create a wine with a consistent and exceptional flavor profile. It boasts a rich, complex smoky aroma of perfectly ripe fruit, accented by a delightful noisette note, reminiscent of a Meursault style.

Vinification: Whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented with native yeasts, 
11 months in French oak, 35% new, bottled unfined, unfiltered.

Only 68 barrels produced. 

Wine Notes

On the palate, the wine is deliciously intense with fruit flavors supported by toasty oak and smoky undertones. Its crisp acidity highlights the fruit, making it an excellent pairing with a variety of foods. The wine is richly textured and has a long, lingering finish.
