Vourvoukeli Estate Thrace PGI Malagouzia 2017
Malagouzia is a high quality, full-bodied, aromatic varietal that was recently revived by Greek viticulturists. Virtually extinct until Professor of Oenology Vassilis Logothetis re-discovered it in Nafpaktia in 1970s. Now grown in Thrace, a blessed place, with an extensive history of grape growing, wine production, and wine trade, was mentioned even by Homer. This region is one of the smallest in Greece, that shares a border with Bulgaria.
In 1999, the family of Nikos and Flora Vourvoukeli planted 2 hectares of land on the fertile hills of the area with indigenous and foreign wine grape varieties, with a view to realizing their vision of reviving the famous Avdira vineyard (Thrace IGP). It gradually developed into a privately owned 12-hectare vineyard which is cultivated in accordance with the regulations for organic farming.
The wine displays the basic characteristics of the variety, which is an intense aromatic bouquet of grassy notes, citrus, white flowers and apricot. Moderate to high acidity the wine is quite full bodied accompanied by flavors of nectarine, tropical fruits and long finish. Pair with salmon or food with high fat content.
