Saracina Unoaked Chardonnay Mendocino 2012 Organic
Saracina is a 600-acre bio-diverse property encompassing three ranches located in Hopland, California. The main ranch is home to Saracina Vineyards, a small-production, state-of-the-art, California Certified Organic (CCOF) winery and the first wine caves in Mendocino County, carved out of solid rock over a two-year period. Having sold Fetzer Vineyards to Brown-Forman in 1992, former CEO John Fetzer settled into the life of a gentleman farmer, growing grapes organically for a number of wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties. His mission was to highlight the outstanding viticultural traditions of the county and raise the bar for local vinification practices to produce wines that could compete with the finest world wines.
1200 cases made. 96% Chardonnay, 4% Viognier.
Saracina's winemaking emphasizes a respect for tradition and for hand-crafted techniques, including the use of indigenous yeast and bacteria, minimal intervention and no filtration of the wines. This Chardonnay comes from Saracina's CCOF certified organic estate vineyard just stone's throw away from the Russian River which runs through the ranch. This unoaked Chardonnay offers aromas of apple, pear and lemon. The Viognier adds a floral spice to this Chardonnay. The finish is nice and crisp, a great expression of pure Chardonnay to be enjoyed with some good company such as your shellfish buddies like crab, oyster, and prawns. Even a nice vegan zucchini soup with vegan rissotto. Of course our favorite is the Scallops with Sweet Corn & Shitake Ragout. 13.2 ABV.
