Joseph Swan "Saralee Vineyards" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2015

  • 3999

Founded in 1967 by Joe Swan, who originally made wines while he was based in Salt Lake City in the US Army Air Corps. He purchased a small farm on Laguna Road near the town of Forestville in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. The property consisted of 13 acres of old Zinfandel vines, fruit trees and pasture along with several structures including an old barn and a nearly 100 year old house. The house was once the post office, general store and telephone exchange for the town of Trenton.

Joe made sure the model for his wines were all French. He choose to produce low production for high quality. He believed that small was beautiful and led to more intense age worthy wines. One of the friends that helped him make his first vintages was Joel Peterson (who would make his first Ravenswood wine here in 1976). Joe's last vintage was 1987, currently his daughter Lynn and son-in-law Rod carries on the legacy.

Saralee Vineyards is produced from 7 clones of Pinot Noir, all harvested, fermented and aged separately. A combination of wild and cultured yeast were used. The wine was aged in French Burgundy barrels for 10 months before selection, blending and bottling. The wine is unfined and unfiltered. Only  269 cases produced
