Hendry Unoaked Napa Valley Chardonnay 2018
The Hendrys have been farming the same vineyard since 1939. All of their wines are from the estate and sustainably grown. Earlier on the pioneers grew plum trees and raised cattle, however there was a rise in viticulture in the 60s and 70s. Initially the Hendry's grapes were sold to Mondavi, Opus One and Kent Rosenblum. However with the profound change in Napa's wine industry, they decided to make their own wine. thr first vintage of Hendry was made in 1992.
This wine is a selection from: Block 19 (Dijon 96, planted 1996), and Block 20 (Dijon 95, planted 1996). At harvest half of the fruit from these blocks is whole-cluster crushed and fermented in stainless steel at cold temperature to prevent oxidation.
Pale yellow color. Aromas of crisp lemon cookies and nectarine. On the palate, light-bodied, layered, and soft-edged. Flavors include lime, baked golden and green apple, nectarine skin. Sweet fruit, pith and bright acid on the finish. Always best lightly chilled, and paired with delicate fish, grilled or roasted chicken, veggie-based soups such as potato, parsnip or cauliflower, or, in summer, a cold cucumber soup with yogurt and dill. 13.6% alc.
