Chateau Guiraud G Bordeaux Blanc 2019 96pts
Located in Sauternes, on one of the greatest white wine terroirs in France, Chateau Guiraud's history can be traced back to 1766 from the Guiraud Family. The property was named Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 in the classification ordered by Napoleon III. The 85 hectares have now converted to organic farming, planted to 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. The property is well-known for their natural approach to viticulture. Including construction of insect hotels, developing genetic diversity, studying and propagating vines in a conservatory.
G de Chateau Guiraud is the property's dry white wine made from grapes harvested at full maturity. Aged for 7 months in oak barrels that produced the previous year's Grand Cru. This wine comes from 35 year old vines, grown on sandy gravel and clay gravels. Hand harvested in 6kg baskets.
Chateau Guiraud is now co-owned by Xavier Planty, Robert Peugeot, Stephan von Neipperg (Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere) and Olivier Bernad (Domaine de Chevalier).
50% Sauvignon Blanc, 50% Semillon
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Pretty notes of quince, honeyed orange, white flowers, and apricot-like notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Guiraud, which is medium to full-bodied and has a terrific sense of purity, a focused, elegant texture, and a great finish. Developing more and more complexity with time in the glass, it delivers an incredibly precise, elegant texture that keeps you coming back.
93 Points James Suckling
This is a dense, waxy white with sliced dried-apple and lemon character, as well as stone and white peaches. It’s full-bodied, flavorful and rich. I like the spicy finish at the end from the semillon. Really excellent. From organically grown grapes.
92 Points Wine Spectator
Very pure, with chiseled edges of lemon pith and peel flanking a core of yellow apple, shortbread, acacia and verbena notes. The long finish pulls it all together nicely. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now.
Wine Notes
Discover the rich expression of jasmine, ripe nectarine and grapefruit pith. The palate is crisp with note of lemon verbena, dried pineapple and tart apple. Soft and fruit forward with a vibrant finish. This will be one of the most unique White wines you will try. Pair with shellfish, poultry, light cheese dishes.
