Frog's Leap Napa Valley Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Organic
First certified by CCOF in 1988, Frog's Leap has been a leader in the industry for over two decades. Dubbed a “Prince of a Wine” by the New York Times in 1982, this wine set a course that hasn't veered much from its original ideals. In 2002 it began to be made exclusively from dry-farmed, organically grown vineyards. All of this has taught us one simple lesson: the less we interfere in the cellar with the perfectly grown clusters, the more beautiful the wine becomes.
This is a classically structured Cabernet that is the result of a decades-long pursuit to obtain vineyards on the Rutherford Bench. Frog's Leap's Estate Cabernet comes from their Rossi and Chavez-Leeds vineyards. Harvested in mid-September and aged 20 months in French Oak.
"Living and working among the vineyards of Rutherford for the last four decades kindled a dream...an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon that embodies the unique characteristics of this storied appellation." John Williams, Owner & Winemaker
95 Points Vinous, Antonio Galloni
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is such a gorgeous wine. In 2017, the Frog's Leap Cabernet has a bit more depth and richness, as it often does in warmer years. Cedar, tobacco, mint and sweet red cherry are all pushed forward in a succulent Cabernet with tons of character that still retains its super-classic, mid-weight feel. Time in the glass brings out the wine's aromatic nuance and silkiness. The Frog's Leap Cabernet remains an under the radar gem in today's Napa Valley.
90 Points Wine & Spirits
The unusual heat spikes throughout the summer of 2017 challenged the dry-farmed vines at Frog’s Leap, but they came through it with fruit that tastes light and bright. There’s some dimpled ripeness to its red-cherry flavors, and a little alcohol warmth in the end, but the overall impression is rich and sleek, spicy and bold.
