Enkidu E Sonoma County Chardonnay 2018
Winemaker and owner, Phillip Staehle, created Enkidu to produce wines of outstanding character, and to get back to “...working with my hands, to use all of my senses, and live and work according to the seasons of the year.” Phil honed his craft at Carmenet Vineyards (Chalone Wine Group) from the mid-80s to the mid-90s. They employ a minimalist approach utilizing techniques which maximize the expression of the fruit, resulting in balanced, complex wines, which frankly, just taste good! Distinctive and expressive, Enkidu wines are carefully crafted and nurtured: the product of our commitment to make the best wines possible.
The Chardonnay is grown in a remote narrow valley in the hills in the Russian River Valley. The vineyard is very cool and allows us to hang the fruit much longer than most Chardonnay while still preserving a great deal of acidity and verve.
Aged in 8 months in French oak (10% new)
The inaugural 2018 ‘E’ Chardonnay was barrel fermented to give it depth and complexity. Green apple and lemon curd are tinged with lees aromas and a hint of tropical fruit. The aromas roll into the flavors showing viscosity and a hint of new French oak to frame the high acidity in a lush, semi-rich mouth. The bright acidity is perfect to pair our ‘E’ Chardonnay with rich seafood and lighter meats. Drink over the next three years.
