Organically farmed and certified by EcoCert. Cuvee Cadiac is the single vineyard, top wine of Domaine Berthet Rayne, located in the heart of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. We met the 30 some year old Laure Berthet-Rayne this year and immediately knew she was a young woman with great ambition. Representing the 5th generation and following her grandfather and father's foot steps, Laure and her husband Martial Capeau is 100% hands on at the estate's 26 hectares of vineyards. The estate is situated on the diluvium alpine soil, more specifically on the left side of the Rhone between Orange and Avignon in the renown “terroirs” of Coudoulet and Chapouin. Domaine Berthet-Rayne wines draw their strength and richness from stone covered clayey-chalky soils.
Cuvee Cadiac was aged in french oak barrels for 15 months. It is derived from a single land plot called Cadiac from the Cadillac graft system that was used by the founder of the estate to establish its vine stocks.
50% Grenache, 50% Mourvèdre
Robert Parker Jr 90-92: The richest cuvee,, the deep ruby/purple tinged 2011 is a blend of equal parts of tank-aged Grenache and new-oak aged Mourvedre. It is an example of the 2011 vintage at its finest. Forward, precocious and lush with loads of kirsch and black currant fruit as well as lovely, easy-going silky, medium to full bodied texture. It should drink nicely for a decade or more.


Wine Notes

Discover the richness of sweet vanilla spices and fresh baked berry pie notes. The aromas will intensify as this wine gets consumed. The wine is smooth and silky with flavors of ripe black and red berries, cedar, licorice, medium plus tannins and long finish.  Excellent on its own and with stewed beef “daube”, coq au vin and venison dishes as well as well matured cheeses. 14% Alc.
