Convexity Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Celebrated as The San Francisco Chronicle’s 2014 Winemaker of the Year, Steve Matthiasson brings to Convexity his expertise on vineyard management and wine making. The team behind Convexity is comprised of John Meriwether, Chi-fu Huang and Eric Rosenfeld. The trio members were also former partners in an asset management company, where they drew on mathematical models to make long horizon investments and now fulfill their passion in the liquid market.
Convexity offers the best of Old World excellence with the fresh flavors of California. Convexity draws on fruit from two iconic vineyards in the Southern portions of Napa Valley: Red Hen Vineyard and Vare Vineyard. Red Hen Vineyard nestles into a curve of a dry creek in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, which was historically planted and run by the Church and produced wines made by the Christian Brothers starting in the 1950s. Vare Vineyard is a small section beside the creek in the Dry Creek Canyon of Napa Valley.
85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
Complex aromas of spiced plums and roasted meats. On the palate the aromas continue, giving fresh red and dark fruit with notes of cocoa and espresso bean. Long finish, dry and balanced flinty tannins. A superb Napa Valley wine with aging potential. 13.5% Alc. Excellent with Beer Braised Brisket & Cabbage or Pan Seared Ribeye.
