Claude Riffault "La Noue" Sancerre Rosé 2017
Sancerre may be well known for their white wine and star grape, Sauvignon Blanc. However the region does produce red grapes. Domaine Claude Riffault produces a lovely Rosé from 100% Pinot Noir. The winery is certified Organic and Biodynamic and is run by Claude's son, Stephane Riffault. Based in the village of Sury-En-Vaux, Stephane works 33 different parcels in 8 different lieu-dits across 4 villages. The 13.5 hectares of vines are plowed and no synthetic material is used. The entire harvest is carried out by hand and an extensive sorting takes place before the grapes are crushed.
La Noue is a 2.5 hectare plot of Pinot Noir on clay limestone and marl. Divided into seven plots and ranging in age from 10 to 60 years old. The rosé is a combination of juice bled off the Sancerre Rouge after a 6-12 hour maceration combined with direct press Pinot Noir.
A lover of Rosé will be excited to try this 100% Pinot Noir expression.
