Claiborne & Churchill Central Coast Gewurztraminer Dry 2018
Claiborne & Churchill is a small, family owned and operated winery, founded in 1983 and located in the heart of the Edna Valley, just outside San Luis Obispo, California. Inspired by the wines of Alsace, they specialize in premium dry wines made from Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris grapes, as well as handcrafted Pinot Noirs and Syrahs. Founded by Claiborne (Clay) Thompson and Fredericka Churchill Thompson. Former teachers at the University of Michigan, the couple left the “Groves of Academe” for the vineyards of California in 1981 in order to begin a new life in the wine industry.
This 2018 Gewurztraminer is their 35th consecutive vintage. All 100% from Viento Vineyards. An interesting fact: The current winery is a "straw bale building", the first of it's kind in California. 16 inch think walls made of bales of rice straw, to keep the winery at a constant cellar temperature.
