Known as one of the oldest wine-growing estates around Pauillac and the oldest in the commune of Saint Seurin de Cadourne, the chateau stands out by the beauty of the architecture, as evidenced on the label. Located on a slope in Pauillac overlooking the Gironde, this very old Medoc property has an exceptional terroir that consists of clayey and dry Garonne gravel. Rigorous selection combined with ageing in new barrels have contributed to raising Chateau Verdignan to the ranks of the best crus bourgeois. The wine is made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon with low yields of 36 hl/ha. The total 60 hectares are planted to mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines are 40 years old. Consulting oenologist is Eric Boissenot and the main winemaker is Eric Miailhe. The wine is typically aged in tight-grain French oak barrels for 12 months, with 1/4 renewed each year.
