One of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s oldest estates, archives affirm Château La Nerthe’s existence as early as 1560 and suggest an even more distant past dating to the dawn of the region’s wine culture in the 12th century. An Iconic producer whose wines are considered a benchmark with each vintage released.
This wine from the excellent 2017 vintage is a blend of 40% Grenache noir, 35% Syrah, 18% Mourvèdre and 7% Cinsault aged 12 months 50% in small French oak barrels and 50% large French oak casks.
This deep red Châteauneuf du Pape is very aromatic. At the very beginning, the nose is very red fruit driven and then, after a couple of minutes, it becomes more spicy (sweet asian spices and pot pourri). The mouth is full of energy, very juicy. Lots of garrigue characters, herbal notes but still very fleshy. The palate is soft and dense bringing an intense sappy finish. 14.5% Alc.
