Chateau Coupe Roses "Bastide" Minervois 2016
The entire Le Calvez family is involved in this business. From the parents to the sons and daughter, together they manage Chateau Coupe Roses on the higher elevations in the Minervois appellation. At around 750 to 1,350 feet above sea level, this area has relatively cool nights and the growing season is the longest in the AOC. Wines from Coupe Roses have excellent acidity and freshness, with out any plodding, overripe characters.
Most of Coupe Roses' vineyards are on the plateau above the cliff, an arid windswept place of scrub and rock-calcified limestone. The vineyards appear to be growing on pure rock. Vineyards, olive trees, the remnants of ancient Roman road exists up on this plateau.
This Bastide Cuvee is an even split of Carignan and Grenache, 5% Syrah.
In this wine is all the garrigue underbrush of the high Minervois, laced with high-toned blueberry notes and underpinned by Carignan's tarry black notes.
