Dated back to 1147, Calon Segur was owned by Monseigneur de Calon, the Bishop of the community. Then later owned by Nicolas Alexandre de Segur (also owned Lafite and Latour at the time), which formed the name for the Chateau. The new owners of Chateau Calon Segur has invited in new wine making facilities with newer viats and stainless steel tanks. An extensive replanting is in the works to increase more Cabernet Sauvignon inthe vines.

Calon Segur is one of the few walled in vineyards in the Left Bank. The soil of the estate is a blend of gravel, clay sand and limestone soils with a gentle sloping elevation.
