Bodegas Tavera Lechuza Garnacha Spain 2020

Bodegas Tavera Lechuza Garnacha Spain 2020 91pts JS

  • 1099

Old bush vines (50-70 years) of Garnacha are planted on granitic sandy soils that are extremely poor in nutrients. These high-altitude vineyards, at 400-600 meters, experience extreme diurnal shifts in temperature –scorching days and frigid nights. The grapes are destemmed and fermented with wild yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel.

Lechuaza is a collaboration based in the Gredos Mountains and the DO of Mentrida with Bodegas Tavera. The winery dates back to 1917 and has been passed down for 3 generations. Today it is run by Conseulo Gonzalez and her brother Jesus and winemaker Belen Hita.

91 Points James Suckling
A fruity nose of ripe strawberries, cassis, cherries, vanilla and cinnamon. It’s medium-to full-bodied with powdery tannins. Creamy with rich, sweet berries.
