Bedrock California Syrah 2018
Proclaimed winemaker of the year by Jon Bonné (2015), Morgan Twain-Peterson (son of Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson) and partner Chris Cottrell found a way to express history of California in a bottle. Their passion is finding the best vineyards to make the best expression of a single grape.
This California Syrah is primarily made up of declassified lots of vineyard designated wines. Particularly Hudson, Griffin’s Lair, Alder Springs, Weill, Shake Ridge and others make the majority of the blends, combined with small amounts of Bedrock Vineyard Syrah, Walker Vine Hill and others. All lots saw some use of whole-cluster (ranging from 20-100%) and there is a small amount of Viognier also cofermented in a few of the lots. Elevage was done in a variety of barrel sizes, a small fraction of which were new.
Peterson is also one of the first California winemakers to become a Master of Wine.
