Beckmen Cuvee Le Bec Santa Ynez 2020 Biodynamic 92pts
A Family affair in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. The Beckmens have established themselves as a leading grower and producer of Organic and Biodynamic wines. Their wines come from two vineyards planted in the Los Olivos District AVA and Ballard Canyon AVA. For the last 15 years all of their fruit has been picked exclusively at night to ensure the grapes are picked at the lowest temperature (one of the by-laws of Biodynamic farming). All of the grapes are hand-picked in small lots and only the ripest grapes are selected from each row and block.
Biodynamic farming is the first type of farming that can be considered “organic” and is the root of the organic farming methods widely known and practiced today. Often confused with both organic and sustainable farming practices, biodynamic farming meets all of the criteria of both, while also implementing a set of eight naturally derived, non-chemical, soil and plant treatments known as biodynamic preparations (preps). These herb and manure based preps are applied to the farm in various seasons to help heal the earth and increase biodiversity, especially in the soil.
92 Points Vinous
The 2020 Cuvee Le Bec (51% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 6% Mourvèdre, 5% Counoise) is fabulous. Deep and inky, with terrific energy, the 2020 is so impressive. Juicy black cherry, plum, licorice, leather, mocha and spice build effortlessly. I would prefer to drink this bold, juicy red over the next handful of years, while the fruit remains vibrant.

This bottling always punches way above its price point, and this year's bolder blend of 51% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 6% Mourvèdre and 5% Counoise is no different. Aromas of rose petal, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak spice lead into a tense palate of baked plums and cardamom, with plenty of wood spice on the finish.
Our namesake red wine blend is back with another remarkable vintage! The 2020 Cuvee le Bec is a blend of 51% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 6% Mourvedre, and 5% Counoise, with stunning and dense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, spices, and floral notes. The mouth is filled with more dark fruits and spices which brighten on the back end as the Grenache and Counoise express themselves on the lifted finish. Another very special vintage of the Cuvee le Bec, as balanced and delicious as ever! Drink this now and over the next 12 years.
