Lioco Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2017
Former Spago Beverly Hills wine director Kevin O'Connor and wine salesman Matt Licklider started Lioco in 2005. The focus was to use European wines as inspiration and to source fruit from Santa Cruz, Sonoma and Mendocino. Their philosophy is to hunt relentlessly for the best vineyards, invest in holistic viticulture, pick early, harvest all fruit by hand, hand sorting and employ minimalist winemaking.
Lioco has been named by Wine & Spirits, Winery of the Year in 2016, 2014, 2013 and 2011. You can find their wines at top restaurants in such as: The French Laundry, Bouchon, Gramercy Tavern, John Geroges, Chez Panisse, AOC, Republique and Bestia.
This Chardonnay was hand harvested, de-stemmed and the berries "broken" before being pressed to stainless steel tanks. Fermented on the lees, with no battonage for 8 months. Nature malolactic fermentation, followed by a gentle cross-flow filtration prior to bottling.
Most of the fruit came from Russian River Valley. The intent is to find sites that are commitment to sustainable horticulture and to express the unique character of this region. Warm days, cool nights and oceanic fog.
