Bonterra Mendocino County Syrah 2004 Organic
Special "Cellar Select" from our collector's cellar. Enjoy a perfectly aged California Syrah from well known organic producer Bonterra Vineyards. When we first tasted this Syrah, we felt like it would benefit from a few years of aging. Now after a decade, this Syrah is showing beautifully, and offered at this unbeatable price.
First certified by CCOF in 1990, Bonterra has been at the forefront of the organic wine movement. They have been growing organically since 1987 with combined acres of 915 acres all within a 30 mile radius of their home, McNab Ranch (farmed Biodynamically). Bonterra is not only a happy place for vines, cows, goats, lavender and flowers, it is also a place of history. Lead winemaker Bob Blue has been with Bonterra since their very first vintage in 1992 under the Fetzer Organic label.
Decanter: "Mature, leathery, touch of brett. Complex. Concentrated blackberry fruit, Fruit cake complexity. High but balanced alcohol."
Deep ruby color, with an intense aroma of baked plum, dried craneberry, chocolate, mocha and spice. On the palate, you will find stewed blackberry, sweet spice and oak. The tannins are nice and mellow with a moderate structure and a good long finish. One of our favorite Syrahs right now, perfect for Duck Leg Confit with Braised Cabbage or our Heatry and Meaty Cassoulet. 14.5% Alc. Content. Certified Organic CCOF
