Chateau La Fleur de Gay Pomerol 2006

The vines are planted in a specific, small, 3 hectare portion of the best parcel that belongs to Chateau La Croix de Gay. The terroir is mostly gravel with clay soils. The vineyard is planted to 100% Merlot. Chateau La Fleur de Gay has very good neighbors. The Right Bank chateau is not located far from Chateau Chateau Clinet or LEglise Clinet on the edge of the Pomerol Plateau. The vineyard of Chateau La Fleur de Gay is planted to a vine density of 6,000 vines per hectare.

With Alain Raynaud taking more of an interest in this estate, which is actually run by his sister, it will be interesting to see if they can push the quality of this fabulous terroir to the level of some of the great estates on the plateau of Pomerol, such as Petrus, Vieux-Chateau-Certan, and Lafleur. Certainly the 2006 is an outstanding wine.

Wine Notes

This 100% Merlot boasts a deep, saturated ruby/purple color followed by sweet raspberry and blueberry notes interwoven with hints of truffles and charcoal. The wine possesses a full-bodied, luscious texture, admirable purity, and impressive length. It should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and evolve for 15+. Robert Parker
